Lyman Hall at its Best!

   LYMAN HALL ELEMENTARY HISTORY
By Jennifer G-G. and Emely Z.
Did you know that in 1936 Lyman Hall Elementary School was built behind Pizza Hut, on Lyman Street?  Our school was named after Dr. Lyman Hall, a medical doctor, former Georgia Governor (16th) and also one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence, on July 4, 1776.
                                      http://www.ushistory.org/Declaration/signers/hall.htm

The school housed 1st grade to 11th grade. In 1951, grade 12th was added. Also in 1958 they kept 1st-8th grades because South Hall High School had to take grades 9th-12th. In 1988 the school only had the grades K-5.
In the year 1971 the school was burned and the lunchroom was the only room left. It was rebuilt on 2150 Memorial Park Road Gainesville, GA 30501. It is still the present location.    The chart below displays, by year, the number of students enrolled at Lyman Hall Elementary School, broken down by ethnicity, until 2008.

This school year 2009 - 2010 there are about 70 teachers, 750 students and about 40 classes at Lyman Hall, where it is a great place to learn.
Our telephone number is (770) 534-7044.

This sequence of pictures takes us back to Summer 2007.  If you are new to Lyman Hall, you will appreciate learning about the remodeling project that replaced thirteen trailers by a brand new K and 1st grade building.

After School Fun

BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB AT LYMAN HALL
By Lizeth G.
Our school is starting a new program, Boys and Girls Club. The program is for young kids. The Boys and Girls Club's goal is to inspire and help kids reach their goals in life. It is also to make kids responsible citizens. The club also keeps kids from joining gangs, and kids from being overweight.
The club has programs for homework help and computer learning. They not only teach kids to learn but they also teach kids to care for their community. Boys and Girls Club has a big summer program. The program is for kids to learn and have fun at the same time. While the kids are learning they can participate in activities like, baseball, soccer, swimming, arts and crafts, dance, and drama. The kids are in the supervision of adults during the summer program. So I really encourage you to join this fun summer program.
Boys and Girls Club is having their 12th annual Rubber Duck Derby. The event will be Saturday, May 15th, 2010 at Clarks Bridge Park, the time will be 10:00 am.- 4:00 pm. Lots of people join this event. The participating people buy a duck and they get a number, the rubber ducks also have a number on them. 15,000 rubber ducks are thrown to swim laps. The first duck to get to the finish line, get their number checked and the person who has that number wins a prize. The grand prize is for $10,000 cash.
Next school year, we will have a new  Boys & Girls Club building in the school grounds. Construction is just about finished.

YMCA Fun
 By Joel B.
This program has four major components: child education, adult education, parent education, and parent and child together. Parents and families they are invited to go to Family Night when they will enjoy food and activities.
The YMCA program focuses on reading, language arts, and math, tutoring service, enrichment activities, a healthy snack, and a well-balanced curriculum that supports the physical and emotional needs. The After School Program offers homework support, healthy snack, playing outside, and small and large group activities.
The YMCA is a Christian movement. Students who participate in the YMCA improve their academic performance, become caring and responsible adults, are more cooperative as students, and are more elikely to resolve conflicts by talking instead of fighting. I enjoy being part of it!

   The pictures show how many students attend the YMCA After School;
